My first Giveaway: An Orange Rhino organic onesie or shirt - UPDATED with winner

Hi all. Thanks for entering the contest. We picked the winning number 23 from random.org which corresponded to @poshlittle's tweet. More giveaways to come.

I've mentioned before that I'm not a huge fan of a lot of the baby and infant clothes that I see out there. It's just not my style and I don't get most of it. So when we found out we were pregnant I was worried that I'd have to design and print a bunch of stuff myself. That would probably leave our child running around either naked or in plain clothing because I'd never get to actually doing the design.

Then Staci found some really great stuff out there. I was psyched to find out about Orange Rhino. It's the stuff I would design if I designed clothes, so I'm glad they are doing the work for me.

What's even better is they've been cool enough to help me out with my first giveaway contest. The winner will get a onesie or shirt of their choice.

But first, here's the lowdown on Orange Rhino:

They are a husband and wife team.

They screenprint their designs on organic and ultra-soft cotton onesies (one-piece bodysuits), lap tees, and hoodies from American Apparel for comfort and durability.

Everything is made in the USA and Fair Trade.

They use organic clothing because it makes the best gift for baby showers, new babies and kids (particularly for the eco-friendly mom).

You can find their stuff at their site or baby boutiques in Minneapolis, and Minnesota suburban gift stores, Pennsylvania, Colorado, and Australia.

So here's the deal with the giveaway:

Prize: A onesie or t-shirt of your choice (in stock item)

How to enter:
There are 2 ways to enter. You can and should enter both ways.

Method 1 – Follow this blog on Google Connect or follow the feed and leave a comment letting me know your favorite of the Orange Rhino designs. If you already follow you can just leave a comment. Please make sure you have set your up Google Connect profile with a valid email address so I can contact you. Or give me some way to get in touch with you.

Method 2 – Tweet about this giveaway. The tweet must include 3 things: @orangerhinokids, @smonkyou and a link to the giveaway. You can use this tweet or create your own (as long as you include those 3 things.)

One winner will be picked via random.org after 5PM (CST) on October 23. I'll contact the winner and then announce it here. Good Luck.

  1. Thanks Kenny for the post and your blog. I've been enjoying reading your thoughts as you are a few months ahead of me on the becoming-dad journey. My favorite design is the "birds in blossom"

  4. I had the same fear when we found out I was pregnant, except I don't have the creative ability to fall back on designing my own clothes. Finding companies like this one is a huge relief! I for one love the bird in blossom, with the midwest collage running a close second.

  5. My favorite is the Bird in Blossom long sleeved toddler tee. BTW, Etsy is an EXCELLENT resource for indie labels that don't cost an arm and a leg and that don't look like everything else out there. If you do your homework, you can often get way nicer stuff for a fraction of the cost of most chain baby shops at your local mall.

  13. Love the Midwest Collage since we are try to keep Lilah connected with Chicago. This involves telling her bedtime stories that revolve around Manny's corn beef sandwiches and afternoons watching the Cubs blow it in the 9th. Enjoying your blog, Kenny. Love to Staci and pre-kid.

  20. I like the Organic Baby Onesie featuring Japanese Koi Fish. I agree, it's hard to find decent baby clothes. Most of them are too heavy on the 'cute' and definitely light on 'cool'. These... I like. :) Good find!
I signed up to follow - looking forward to reading more (and off to read some older posts now).

Dear Scott the Paleontologist – the response... Wait sorry... the awesome response

In my last post I asked some incredibly pressing questions to Dr. Scott Sampson aka Scott the Paleontologist. Questions that any parent of a Dinosaur Train fan wants to know... I got a reply and I have to say Dr. Scott is hilarious and pretty awesome... But I'm a fan of science humor... So here are his responses in line with mine. They're in blue because that's the color of most of  Shiny Pteranodon. Dear Scott the Paleontologist, My son Miloh and I are fans of Dinosaur Train and as an avid fan I have some questions regarding it that I hope you can answer: The train is a steam engine. Does it run off coal? If it does use coal is there a possibility that greenhouse gases from that could have lead to the extinction of dinosaurs? How come this isn't a theory? Very interesting question. Yes, to the best of my knowledge, the Dinosaur Train runs on fossil fuels, but we actually do have an episode upcoming where we investigate alternative fuel trains. Given that ...

The Cat in the Hat Knows Pretty Much Nothing About That

I find myself saying it a lot but we don't let Miloh watch a lot of TV... Mostly because it goes a bit against Montessori at home (although we're pretty reform with that) and also because we, read I, watch too much and we don't want Miloh in the habit. On the list of things he does watch is The Cat in the Hat Knows A Lot About That. Netflix is our friend in the mornings so he will get a bit of that or Sesame Street while the person who's on duty that AM tries to actually wake up. And Miloh truly loves the show. He calls it hat and pats his head. He let's us know that there's a fish on screen every time the fish comes on screen, he dances and says "Go, go, go" when they sing that song. Unfortunately since we really only watch on Netflix we've only seen eight episodes... But this gives me time to really think about the show. Here are some problems with it: The Cat in the Hat actually really knows almost nothing about everything. He does ...

New Giveaway: ABC's for Expectant Dads - 10 awesome copies

Winners have been picked for the giveaway. Todd was so nice as to give all who entered by the deadline a copy of his book. Thanks all who entered...I sent an email to you for your info. Please email me (info on the header) if you don't get that email. Rommel I could not find your email...please let me know your contact info. A bit ago I found Todd Lieman in Twitterland and he sent me a copy of his book ABC's for Expectant Dads: The Ultimate A- for Dads-in-Training. I'd looked at a bunch of expectant dad books and I thought most were terrible. I did pick up The Expectant Father and I liked it but I haven't looked at it in months. I think it's tough for dad's because we're just reading about what's going on with the mothers and it's easier to hear it from them. Staci is reading so much that she keeps me up to date on things I should know and I'm sure most expectant moms are the same. I'm also luckily in that doing this blog has connected...
